Job Description:

Plans, monitors and directs the activities of a staff of Auditors engaged in performing field audits of Illinois and/or out-of-state taxpayers subject to one or more taxes administered by IDOR.
Interprets and explains the proper application of Sales and Miscellaneous tax laws, rules, regulations and opinions.
Serves as working supervisor.
Performs pre-audit evaluations to establish suitability of cases to Auditor skill levels, scope and procedures to be employed.
Conducts post-audit conferences with taxpayers, or their representatives, to explain audit findings predicated on applicable tax laws rules, regulations, court decisions and precedents.
Confers by telephone or, as necessary, travels to taxpayer's place of business to discuss and resolve technical or controversial tax issues with taxpayers and/or their representatives.
Confers with supervisor to provide information as to status of ongoing audits, or obtain guidance in resolving controversial or complex legal and/or technical tax problems.
Reviews and approves completed computerized audit reports.
Participates in providing classroom and on-the-job training of Trainees and Auditors.
Provides continuous communication and feedback to Region/District staff regarding performance, completing timely reviews and annual evaluations which clearly reflect the employee's accomplishments and contributions, as well as short comings.
Performs other duties as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

Job Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree, including at least 12 semester hours of accounting courses.
Requires four years of progressively responsible experience in the tax auditing of books, records and documents of corporations, partnerships and individuals.
Specialized Skills
Of the four years’ experience, requires four years’ experience in Sales & Miscellaneous Taxes, including two years as a Revenue Auditor Ill with lead/advanced auditor experience.
