Job Description:
What you’ll do:
• Supervise team interaction with authors as they develop plans for product development, including comparing text outlines with appropriate state curriculum requirements (guides) to ensure that necessary topics are included.
• Stay informed about nationwide education trends in these markets by attending appropriate national, state, and local meetings and reading newsletters, journals, and other related materials.
• Plan list at a title level, plan revision cycles, and right-size development efforts to match product market potential.
• Recommend new products and support materials for targeted markets.
• Conduct market research with customers and network with appropriate stakeholders to stay informed of the latest market trends, customer needs (instructor and student), and strengths and weaknesses of competing products.
• Support and help facilitate communications with authors regarding contractual relations, including publishing agreements, royalty splits, royalty changes, and advances against royalties.
• Develop long-term revision plans for all products and contact authors when revisions are needed.
• Working in conjunction with key editorial stakeholders, supervise all aspects of planning and development for first-edition products.
• Supervise team efforts on all primary aspects of editorial project work, including:
? Identify qualified reviewers for texts, as needed.
? Personally assess and (as appropriate) conduct market reviews on authors’ chapters.
? Edit, research, and write manuscript, as needed.
? Work with Creative Department as needed throughout design, layout, proofreading, and other production-related stages.
• Work to appropriately plan, budget, schedule, and develop digital content and supplemental materials.
• Attend and assist with exhibits at meetings and conventions, as needed.
• Conduct teacher training workshops to train and inform stakeholders on use of G-W products or other topics, as requested.
Job Requirements:
What you’ll bring:
• Bachelor’s degree required (master’s degree preferred).
• Minimum of three to five years textbook development, including editorial and production phases, required.
• Writing or editing education, training, or experience required.
• Education, training, or work experience in areas applicable to the Business, Computing, and Careers product line preferred.
• Prior management experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic language skills needed to perform editing tasks; specifically, sufficient grammar and usage skills to edit manuscript and create text copy at a level acceptable to Goodheart-Willcox publishing standards.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, and Outlook.
