Job Description:

Goodheart-Willcox Publisher is seeking an experienced Acquisitions Editor for Health Care Professions. The Acquisitions Editor works closely with the appropriate stakeholders to identify, qualify, and acquire the best and brightest authors to support the content development needs at the secondary and postsecondary levels. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing competitive market and product strategy, and making an immediate impact developing new and revised print and digital solutions that compete effectively in the market.

What you’ll do:
• Identify qualified authors in targeted growth areas and recruit them to write for Goodheart-Willcox, building a portfolio of new products through author acquisition, new product development, and successful product launch to drive list growth
• Conduct market research to understand the competitive environment, the needs of targeted instructors and learners, and identify new publishing opportunities.
• Develop product plans in conjunction with authors and the G-W Publishing team and help develop the vision for the product.
• Work with the editorial team on product development once a product has been signed.
• Develop and reinforce manuscript schedule and deadlines.
• Identify reviewers for G-W products and work as a liaison with the reviewers and editorial teams.
• Provide guidance and direction to authors and reviewers.
• Work with the marketing team to develop marketing plans for new and revised products.
• Make sales presentations and assist in sales team training and customer support as needed.
• Develop partnerships with credentialing organizations.
• Negotiate royalty rates and work-for-hire payments as approved.
• Attend conferences, travel to conferences, conduct on-campus visits to recruit key stakeholders.

Job Requirements:

What you’ll bring:
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university required. Advanced degree is a plus.
• Minimum five years in the publishing industry in editorial, sales, or marketing, required.
• Minimum two years’ experience in acquisitions required.
• Experience in the publishing industry required.
• Experience with Microsoft Office including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining quality and adhering to deadlines.
• Market knowledge for Health Care Professions programs preferred.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Experience in the college and school channels preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
