Job Description:

The Janitor will maintain appearance of the Distribution Center, champion the “Bob’s Way” in all interactions, and observe all safety requirements of Bob’s Discount Furniture. This position reports to the Supply Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them
Gather and empty trash in pre-determined areas
Service, clean, and supply restrooms in the warehouse
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
Clean and stock all water coolers as per schedule
Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors, using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
Steam-clean or shampoo carpets as needed
Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment
Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created
Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow melting chemicals
Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings
Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation
Advise of repairs/replacements items needed to maintain regular use of all machines
Other Duties: As required
Decision Making Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision of the Facility Operations Manager/Property Manager, work is performed within standard policies and procedures with little opportunity for un-reviewed decision-making
Financial Responsibilities:
This position does not have any direct financial responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities; May provide routine information and support to less experienced staff

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications

1 year of custodial experience or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved
High School Diploma or equivalent experience in a Warehouse atmosphere
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Skilled at multi-tasking and managing competing priorities
Must be able to work flexible hours determined by the needs of the department including weekends and evenings
Knowledge of cleaning equipment, products, techniques and standards
Skilled in following verbal and written instructions
