Publishing Intern

Are you looking to gain valuable graphic design experience? If so, come join G-W as a summer intern in our Creative department! The Cover Design intern will assist the Production department with creation of textbook cover design for print and digital delivery.


What you’ll do:

• Create and design compelling cover designs.
• Mock up cover mechanicals (spine and back covers) for print and digital delivery.
• Assist with Internet-based photo research as needed, and maintain digital photo files.
• Use good balance, composition, color, and appropriate typography; work with high attention to detail to produce thorough, high-quality, product.
• Adhere to established print, accessibility, and company branding guidelines.
• Receive feedback and collaborate with the Design Manager and Layout Designers and make necessary changes.
• Implement InDesign templates and master pages.
• Export files using defined presets.
• Produce supplement cover designs as necessary.
• Minor photo manipulation.

Job Requirements:

What you’ll bring:
• Currently working towards Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Graphic Design.
• Good academic standing with a GPA of 3.2 or above.
• High school diploma required.
• Available to participate in a twelve-week internship session.
• Proficiency in use of Internet for research.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently.
• Must be able to perform basic math functions, including adding of fractions and percentage conversions.
• Typography experience and ability to work with typographic measurement system (picas, points) preferred.
• Must be proficient with basic computer skills in a PC (Windows) environment, including layout (Adobe InDesign), photo-manipulation (Adobe Photoshop), creation of print-ready files (Adobe Acrobat).
• A professional demeanor and effective communication skills.
• Some related experience and / or general office experience preferred.
