Acquisitions Editor BCC

Goodheart-Willcox Publisher is seeking an experienced Acquisitions Editor for Business, Computing, and Career area. The Acquisitions Editor works closely with the appropriate stakeholders to identify, qualify, and acquire the best and brightest authors to support the content development needs at the secondary and post-secondary levels. The ideal candidate will be responsible for establishing competitive market and product strategy, and make an immediate impact developing new and revised print and digital solutions that compete effectively in the market.

What you’ll do:
• Identify qualified authors and recruit them to write for Goodheart-Willcox.
• Conduct market research to understand the competitive environment, the needs of targeted instructors and learners, and identify new publishing opportunities.
• Collaborate with authors and publishing team to develop product strategy and development plans that shape the vision for each product, including product rationale statements, TOCs, product differentiation and competitive advantage value propositions.
• Facilitate and reinforce manuscript schedules and deadlines.
• Provide market perspective and development guidance and direction to authors and reviewers.
• Plan and guide the market development strategy and tactical efforts for the list.
• Cultivate a pipeline of reviewers for G-W product and market development efforts.
• Actively participate in, and improve publishing team productivity and overall performance.
• Work with the marketing team to develop marketing plans for new and revised products.
• Collaborate with marketing and sales to champion the product line to internal and external stakeholders – attending conferences, making sales presentations, and conducting sales team training and customer support as needed.
• Develop partnerships with credentialing organizations and partners with complimentary value propositions.

Job Requirements:

What you’ll bring:
• Bachelor degree required from a four-year college or university, advanced degree a plus.
• Minimum of five to seven years in the publishing industry in editorial required.
• Two or more years of market experience in some or all of the disciplines in the product line – business, career, and computing – is preferred.
• Ability to utilize various technology tools such as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software required.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining quality and adhering to deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Editorial product management experience in both the 9-12 and college level market is preferred.
• Digital product and content development experience is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
