Job Description:

Goodheart-Willcox Publisher, Experts in Career and Technical Education (CTE), is seeking a Senior Editor for the Business, Computing, and Career group. The Senior Editor will act in a lead role for managing multiple projects through the editorial process. This individual also takes full ownership of projects including developing text, supplements and any other supporting materials. The ideal candidate will possess market expertise and utilizes a customer-centric approach to editorial work, and collaborates closely with authors, and provides guidance and advice to help create market-leading products.

What you’ll do:
• Work with authors and the publishing team to successfully manage major revisions/new products from planning through publication.
• Assist with reviewing and establishing development plans for new or revised titles, in synchronization with the overall goals and editorial investment strategy for a given edition of the work.
• Work with authors, team members, cross-functional stakeholders effectively and collaboratively through all stages of the publishing process.
• Monitor and manage progress of development to ensure timely editorial delivery as planned.
• Guide authors and contributing outside stakeholders through the publishing process for assigned projects. Liaison with internal stakeholders to facilitate the publishing process for assigned projects.
• Edit, research, verify accuracy of content, and write (as needed) manuscript for print and digital texts and supplements.
• Provide guidance to authors on appropriate illustrations and charts they need to illustrate their text chapters.
• Work with authors and digital media to develop and produce instructionally sound digital learning materials that meet accessibility requirements.
• Edit, design/create, and obtain illustrations, tables, charts, and photographic images.
• Work with graphic artists to develop cover designs and interior designs.
• Provide in-house training on our product line.
• Assist with exhibits at meetings and conventions, as needed.
• Keep informed about the strengths and weaknesses of competing products.
• Train and support editorial personnel as required.
• Help develop or review National Sales Conference materials, catalog copy, and other promotional pieces.

Job Requirements:

What you’ll bring:
• Bachelor degree required.
• Minimum five or more years of experience editing, working with educational content development, instructional design, or teaching business and computing content and course material.
• Degrees in English, Education, Journalism, or one of the fields of career and technical education preferred.
• Teaching experience or college coursework in educational instruction or design preferred.
• Excellent knowledge of basic language skills needed to perform editing tasks; specifically, sufficient grammar and usage skills to edit manuscript and create text copy at a level acceptable to Goodheart-Willcox publishing standards.
• Understanding of state or certification based educational standards as well as experience correlating and editing educational materials to those standards is preferred.
• Interest, experience, or aptitude in one or more specific subject areas in which the position will be primarily focused is preferred.
