Job Description:

Check-in staff/Patient registration is responsible for operating an efficient front desk and providing excellent guidance on insurance, benefits, and copay matters to all PCJ patients. The check-in staff also performs secretarial and various general procedures associated with routine patient encounters.
Responsible for handling a high volume of calls requiring good judgement and decision-making skills. This includes calls to and from physicians, patients, patient family members, pharmacies, and other health related agents.

Schedules appointments in computer
Verify patient’s identity by scanning and saving I.D.s and insurance cards
Checking patients in by updating demographic and insurance information in computer
Verifying that each patient has active membership in their insurance plan
Verification of benefits and co-pays
Collecting co-pays and patient balances
Obtaining, recording and updating personal and financial information
Assisting patients who need help filling out new forms when needed
Run physician’s schedule report to verify changes in schedule
Run self-audit and planning reports as designated
Check patients in and out of the system
Collect co-payments and patient balances as instructed
Review and total routes; balance receipts with the encounter forms after a.m./p.m. clinic as needed
Prepare patient charts for clinics by reviewing for any updates as needed

Job Requirements:

Be proficient in operation of office equipment and notifying appropriate staff of malfunctions immediately
Accepts changes to the front desk procedure with an open mind and positive attitude
Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to Release of Information Guidelines in regards to clients’ rights
Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the mission of Primary Care Joliet and compliant with policies, procedures, regulatory agencies and professional requirements
Recognizes potential credit problems such as liabilities or self-pays and direct them to appropriate personnel
Performs random front desk duties efficiently and correctly
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and figure percentages on a calculator
Respond to requests from other departments in a timely, positive and pleasant manner
Demonstrate the ability to make decisions, take action and follow through on tasks
Critical attention to details
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
Strong customer service focus
Excellent communication skills
High school diploma*
Two years of previous experience in a fast-paced medical environment*
Medical terminology and experience working with medical records preferred
Basic understanding of health insurance necessary*
