Job Description:

The Riverwalk Café Assistant Manager position is responsible for day-to-day food service operations at the Riverwalk Café and Fort Hill Activity Center Café. Major duties include staff supervision, food preparation and service, sanitization, money handling, and customer inquiries. This position is under the general supervision of the Cafe Manager

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Assist in food preparation.
2.Assist in the presentation and sale of products.
3.Comply with all requirements of the Health Department.
4.Recruit, hire, train, and supervise part time staff.
5.Give input to Café Manager on performance appraisals.
6.Maintain and supervise daily operations of the facility.
7.Complete accurate inventory counts and enforce inventory controls including spot checks on product counts.
8.Enforce sanitary practices for food handling, general cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen and dining areas.
9.Handle cash and report computer concerns. Follow all park district policies related to proper cash handling procedures including balancing cash and preparing appropriate reports (i.e., daily cash statements, receipts, and deposits).
10.Respond quickly to customer complaints or inquiries and phone calls and respond to all comment cards-positive and negative.
11.Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. Report needed items to Café Manager.
12.Respond appropriately to emergencies inside the facility and surrounding area.
13.Maintain safe, clean and friendly environment for guests, co-workers and the general public.
14.Maintain a proactive approach to safety and risk management. Assist with loss control review process, and required health department inspections.
15.Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards.
16.Follow district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.
17.Insure all customers are pleased with food and service, by talking to every table with a brief table touch.
18.Coach and develop staff on an on-going basis. (i.e., communicate job expectations, provide training opportunities, provide continuous in-service training as necessary, administer appropriate praise and discipline)
19.Report all accidents and incidents in a timely manner. Conduct timely accident investigations, complete accurate and timely accident and incident reports.
20.Follow and model compliance with all District, State, Federal and departmental safety and risk management, personnel, administrative policies and procedures, ordinances and regulations.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Attend bi-monthly emergency procedure training as scheduled.
Maintain general knowledge of emergency procedures.
Work cooperatively with Café Manager.
Demonstrate excellent customer service and leadership skills.
Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns as needed.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated strong leadership skills.
Capacity to make decisions objectively based on customer service and fiscal constraint.
Ability to supervise, coach and train staff.
Ability to work independently, problem solve and provide direction to staff.
Skill in the operation of food preparation and management.
Communication skills, verbal and written.

Education and Experience:
Must be 21 years of age or older.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in food operations or related field.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification within one (1) month of date of hire.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Basset Certification within one (1) month of date of hire.

Special Considerations:
Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
Exposure to heat from appliances. Exposure to smoke, steam, cleaning chemicals, food and odors.
Subject to modified/flexible work schedule.
Ability to move from site to site.
Ability to lift or carry heavy weight (>50 lbs.) objects.
Ability to perform prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting and climbing for extended periods of time.
Ability to sustain posture in a standing position for prolonged periods of time.
