Job Description:

The Food Preparer/Cook position is responsible for all day-to-day frontline food service operation at the Riverwalk Café. Major duties include food preparation and service, dish duties, sanitation, money handling, customer inquiries. This position is under the general supervision of the Café Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Prepare food per recipes provided by the Café Manager.
2.Assist in the presentation and sale of products.
3.Ensure proper sanitation and safe food handling practices.
4.Respond quickly to customer needs.
5.Monitor inventory of supplies and equipment. Report needed items to Manager on duty.
6.Respond appropriately to emergencies inside the facility and surrounding area.
7.Maintain safe, clean and friendly environment for customers, co-workers and the general public.
8.Maintain a proactive approach to safety and risk management. Comply with all requirements of the Health Department.
9.Demonstrate and support park district customer service standards by demonstrating excellent customer service and leadership skills.
10.Follow district and departmental safety, personnel, and administrative policies, procedures and ordinances.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Attend bi-monthly emergency procedure training as scheduled.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of emergency and water safety procedures.
General knowledge of customer service and food handling.
Ability to address complaints and resolve concerns as needed.
Strong communication skills, verbal and written.
Ability to work independently and as a team.
Ability to operate kitchen machinery and tools.

Education and Experience:
Minimum one (1) year of experience in food operations or related field.
Possession of, or ability to obtain, Illinois Food Service Sanitation Certification within one (1) month of date of hire.

Special Considerations:
Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
Exposure to heat from appliances. Exposure to smoke, steam, cleaning chemicals, food and odors.
Subject to modified/flexible work schedule.
Ability to move from site to site.
Ability to lift or carry heavy weight (>50 lbs.) objects.
Ability to perform prolonged lifting, stooping, bending, twisting and climbing for extended periods of time.
Ability to sustain posture in a standing position for prolonged periods of time.
